End of the Road for Sacramento Mile?

The following is a press release from Clear Channel Entertainment:

Clear Channel Entertainment – Motor Sports announces the return of the Sacramento Mile Saturday, September 13th at the Cal Expo Fairgrounds in Sacramento, California. The K&N Filters Pro Series will feature the Memphis Shades Twin Challenge and Pro Single National Championship classes on the ultra-fast one-mile dirt track.

National Championship motorcycle racing in Sacramento dates back to the mid ‘50s, however this could be the last year for motorcycle racing on the Cal Expo Mile Dirt Track. Cal Expo is looking into horse racing and training year round, which would eliminate the legendary Sacramento Mile.

There is currently no contract between Clear Channel Entertainment -Motor Sports and Cal Expo for future motorcycle racing.

“We have had continued discussions with Ray Malerbi at Cal Expo, and it does not look good for motorcycle races in the near future,” said Mike Kidd, V.P. of Clear Channel Motor Sports. “Ray has given us support over the years, offering Clear Channel future dates if anything becomes available.”

This Saturday night’s event is certain to be a great race – both for the National Dirt Track Series and the racing fans. Tickets are still available through cc.com for the Sacramento Mile, Round 7 of The K&N Filters Pro Series Presented by Drag Specialties brought to you Budweiser. Qualifying begins at 4 p.m., autograph session starts at 6 p.m., and racing (both Pro-Singles and Memphis Shades Twin Challenge) start at 7 p.m. on Saturday, September, 13, 2003 at the Cal Expo Center’s Sacramento Mile.
