GNCC Racing To Host ISDE Fund-Raising Golf Tournament

The following is a press release from GNCC Racing:

GNCC Racing, a division of Racer Productions and producers of the AMA Grand National Cross Country Series, will host the first-annual GNCC Golf Tournament on Friday, June 27, the same weekend as the MSR Wisp GNCC. The event will raise money for America’s Team presented by Parts Unlimited, the U.S Trophy Team at this year’s International Six Days Enduro (ISDE). GNCC riders and spectators are invited to team up with America’s Team members and other top GNCC racers.

The $80 entry fee will go straight to the ISDE fund-raising effort, and several America’s Team sponsors have chipped in donations and prizes to sweeten the pot. But unlike the ISDE itself, the GNCC Golf Tournament is not about winning. “Everyone involved with Project GNCC ISDE 2003 has been working hard, but now it’s time to have some fun,” said Team Manager Jeff Russell. “They better not get competitive, because I know all of these guys ride better than they golf!”

America’s Team members scheduled to golf include GNCC Champion and America’s Team Captain Rodney Smith, AMA National Hare Scrambles Champion Fred Andrews, AMA National Motocross Champion Mike Kiedrowski, AMA National Enduro Champion Mike Lafferty, and Am-Pro Yamaha’s Jason Raines. Other top GNCC Pro bike and ATV racers, such as GNCC series’ points leader Barry Hawk and six-time AMA National Enduro Champion Randy Hawkins will be playing as well.

The golf game is a scramble featuring teams of four playing under a best-ball format. The event begins at 1 p.m. Parts Unlimited will host a free dinner for all golfers at 7 p.m. In addition, golfers planning on racing the MSR Wisp GNCC that weekend can sign up for the event during the dinner.

The game takes place at Wisp at Deep Creek Mountain Resort, one of the region’s top golf courses. The golf game is part of the MSR Wisp GNCC weekend, which includes the GNCC race on the Wisp ski slopes. ATVs race the Wisp Saturday and motorcycles race Sunday.

America’s Team sponsors include Parts Unlimited, Thor, Pro Circuit, Alpinestars, Moose, FMF, Dunlop, Scott, Moto Tees, DC Shoes and Motion Pro. PJ1 lubricants and Arai helmets will contribute product to the team.

The ISDE is one of the world’s oldest and most historic motorcycle events. Although the U.S. has never won an ISDE World Championship, Team USA finished sixth overall in 2001 and was presented the Watling Trophy, awarded to the country that puts forth the best effort under adverse conditions.
