Andrews Wins GNCC in South Carolina
Fred Andrews finally had some luck go his way at the Big Buck Grand National Cross Country in Union, South Carolina, yesterday. The former GNCC champ got his first win of the year after surviving major assault from numerous riders through out the three-hour race. At the end of the race, it was Jason Raines giving the Kawasaki rider the most trouble, but Andrews held on to take the win, becoming the fourth different person to win in the four races held thus far.
The Yamaha-mounted Raines came from behind to finish a close second, while defending champ Rodney Smith overcame some obstacles to land third. Fourth place went to the speedy Mike Lafferty, who came from way to back to lead at one point. But the KTM rider apparently used up too much steam to hold on and dropped back. Opening-round winner Barry Hawk Jr. rounded out the top five overall on his Yamaha.
