Suzuki-mounted Rodney Smith (pictured) won the third round of the Grand National Cross Country Series in Morganton, North Carolina, yesterday. But he didn’t win it by much. The defending GNCC champ finished just a few seconds ahead of opening-round winner Barry Hawk Jr., on the Pro-Am Yamaha.

Third place went to Smith’s FMF/Suzuki teammate Mike Kiedrowski, while fourth- and fifth-place went to Yamaha rider Jason Raines and KTM’s Mike Lafferty, respectively. Suzuki’s Steve Hatch finished sixth, followed by Kawasaki’s Fred Andrews.
