Davis Wins WORCS Opener in Arizona

Montclair Yamaha’s Ty Davis won the opening round of the Parts Unlimited World Off-Road Championship Series in Peoria, Arizona, yesterday. Other than getting passed briefly by fellow Yamaha rider Lance Smail in the middle of the race, Davis led the whole way. Davis eventually pulled away in the late stages to take the win with room to spare over teammate Russell Pearson, who got around Smail. Smail ended up third ahead of Kawasaki rider Destry Abbott and Suzuki-mounted Robert Naughton.

KTM’s Shane Watts finished 11th, but contrary to what the results say, Watts had an encouraging race. After crashing in the first turn, the former GNCC champ came up through the pack and ran near the front before developing mechanical troubles, forcing him to pit late in the race. It appears that Watts has finally gotten over his slow-healing wrist injury.
