Dakar Rally: Stage 15

Italian Fabrizio Meoni, who says he no longer has a shot at the overall win, won today’s 15th stage of the Dakar Rally, a 277-mile stage between Luoxor and Abu Rish in Egypt.

Meoni won by almost two minutes over Sweden’s PG Lundmark. The win puts Meoni alone in the third place overall, 23 minutes behind second-placed Cyril Despres, and 40 minutes ahead of Jean Brucy.

The overall lead continues to be held by Richard Sainct, even though the KTM pilot was fifth in today’s stage. Sainct, however, lost a minute in the standings to Despres and now leads by just 10 minutes over the Frenchman with two stages left. Marco Coma finished third today.
