Anaheim II Practice Day Update

| January 17, 2003

The biggest news on the eve of the Anaheim II Supercross is that Amsoil/Chaparral Honda’s defending 125cc Western Regional Supercross champ Travis Preston was a no-show. Preston’s team manager JC Waterhouse said that Preston was held up, and that he’d be able to elaborate more on the situation in the morning. Preston has missed at least two of his four practices for the event.

In other news, ECC Suzuki’s Steve Lamson had surgery today. “He got the broken leg re-rodded,” ECC team manager Mike Craig said. “Bone grafts, bigger rod, everything. He plans on being back for outdoors.”

Travis Pastrana was in the SoBe Suzuki pits and, to quell the rumors of him going to the Winter X-Games, and that he’s not dedicated to racing, he said, “There’s nothing else going on. The day I got hurt, I got offers to announce a show on NBC and also the Winter X-Games, but I’m not. I’m going home, I’m getting healthy, and I’m coming back and I’m going to kick some butt.”

Craig Decker had his number-53 KX250 in the Chevy Trucks Kawasaki pits, and he looked good in practice. “I’m just kind of going to go in there and do what I can do,” Decker said. “I’m only doing a few, so there’s no pressure and no expectations. I’m just doing it for fun. [My job is] solely testing, this is just a side deal, basically.” He went on to say that he’ll likely race three supercrosses and at least two MX Nationals for the team.

Red Bull KTM’s Josh Woods and Boost Mobile/Yamaha/Troy Racing’s Josh Hansen got into a bit of a brake-checking session in the second 125cc practice. “We were just having fun,” Woods said. “We were just playing around. I hope he knows that.”
