Suzuki Dominates Winter National Olympics

| December 2, 2002

American Suzuki’s Dominic Izzi was the top gun at the 31st running of the Thor/Parts Unlimited Winter National Olympics, presented by Pro Circuit at Gatorback Cycle Park, in Gainesville, Florida. Izzi picked up six wins, a pair of second-place finishes and two other top-five finishes over the course of the week to take home the Pro Circuit Platinum Pipe Award, which is awarded to the rider who accumulates the most points in the Grand Prix, Supercross and Motocross events.

Another American Suzuki rider, Broc Hepler, was the top finisher among the Expert classes, a feat which earned him the Dunlop Silver Tire Award. Josh Lichtle was another Suzuki-mounted winner, taking top honors among the Amateur Divisions to win the Scott USA Golden Goggles Award.

Breaking the Suzuki sweep was the lone Honda of Mike Alessi, who won eight classes without losing a single moto throughout the event to pick up the Fox Bronze Boot Award, which goes to the rider with the most points in the youth classes.
