Chad Reed Wins Sydney Supercross

Australian Chad Reed dominated the Sydney Supercross held at the Superdome Stadium in Sydney, Australia, Saturday night. The Yamaha factory rider raced through the night winning his three heats races, semi-final and the main event in front of a sellout crowd. In 2001 Reed also returned to his homeland and, on that night, he led home Suzuki’s Travis Pastrana.
The night began with Reed taking on KTM rider Craig Anderson in a race that was loaded with action, as Anderson led early before Reed fought his way through for the win. For the 10,000-strong crowd, the chance to see Reed in action was made all the better, as he was entered in five races in the evening. The East Coast 125cc Supercross Champion not only put together a flawless performance, he also did some practice laps aboard his Yamaha 450cc four-stroke.
“It’s nice to ride in front of the crowd,” Reed said. “I don’t get to come home too often and this is really a highlight for me. I was not surprised by the pace here tonight, we have some quick guys and that has not changed since I’ve been away.”
The final proved to be an easy one for Reed, although the early going had some surprises. Reed gated off the pace, but he worked his way into the lead within the first minutes of the race. Soon thereafter, Reed passed second-placed Cameron Taylor and set about lapping the complete field. By race end, Reed had lapped everyone expect Taylor. Taking third place was Anderson.
