Carr Wins Formula USA

| April 28, 2002
Chris Carr could not have asked for a better evening at the Formula USA Foremost Insurance Houston Half-Mile as the former Formula USA National Dirt Track Champion made history by riding an Italian-made VOR motorcycle to its first National dirt track victory.

Carr ran the fastest lap time in qualifying to secure first gate pick in his heat, nearly a half a second faster than Joe Kopp. When the heats rolled around, Carr took a convincing win over the field, though a restart gave him third pick in the main. Reigning Formula USA National Dirt Track Champion Terry Poovey jumped out front ahead of Carr at the start of the main, but Carr wasted little time putting his Quality Checked Certified Pre Owned Ford Racing/David Liles Ethanol Fuels/Yuasa-backed VOR out front. Carr was quick to increase the gap between himself and Poovey, stretching it to more than two seconds at the checkers.

Poovey, who is still suffering from the effects of a crash at Daytona earlier this year, was still able to put his 1stlegal.com/USC Racing/Falicon-sponsored Honda on the podium in the runner-up spot. Rich King was the lone Harley Davidson on the podium, picking up third on his Harley Davidson factory-backed machine.

Carr’s early win gives him a four-point advantage over Poovey going into the Dallas Half-Mile next week at Devil’s Bowl Speedway.
