Harley-Davidson Suspended, Pt. 3

| March 7, 2002
Harley-Davidson’s manager of communications Paul James has given us official word on the nature of the factory dirt track team’s appeal regarding the four-race suspension that was handed down at Barberville, Florida.

“We [the team] are appealing the severity of the penalty,” James said. “We do not dispute that the engine was illegal. A mistake was made in the assembly that stems from parts that came from our York facility. It was not intentional. Bill Werner’s record in this industry speaks for itself.”

As for what the team thought the penalty should be, James said, “We don’t have a recommendation.”
