Campbell, Staab Win Baja 1000

Team Honda went 1-2 at the Tecate SCORE Baja 1000 in Baja California, Mexico, November 9-10. Johnny Campbell and teammate Tim Staab, riding an XR650R, captured the overall (including four-wheel) win, the fifth in a row for the duo. The Campbell/Staab team completed the 667-mile race in 13 hours, 51 minutes and 40 seconds, averaging 48.841 mph. The winning team crossed the finish line well ahead of the runner-up team, made up of Steve Hengeveld and Jonas Street, also on an XR650R. The Hengeveld and Street due suffered mechanical problems along the way, finishing out the race 65 minutes behind Campbell and Staab.

Third overall went to the Chris Haines team, made up of Haines, Jack and Bob Johnson, and Craig Adams.
