Windham – Finally!

Team Suzuki’s Kevin Windham ended his winless streak with a convincing victory today at Washougal Motocross Park in Washougal, Washington. Windham, who hails from Centreville, Mississippi, came from behind to win both 250cc motos over Florida’s Ricky Carmichael and Tim Ferry, and Georgia’s Ezra Lusk, making it a Southeast sweep.

Windham was flawless on the fast and hilly Washougal track. In both motos, Windham had to pass leader Carmichael before taking the two wins, but Windham was up to the task. Carmichael ended up taking second both times out, as did Ferry in third. Lusk captured fourth overall after going 4-6, while Yamaha’s David Vuillemin rounded out the top five overall with a 7-4.

Even though Carmichael lost six points to Windham on the day, the defending champ still owns a commanding points lead with three rounds left. Carmichael currently has 390 points, followed by Windham with 348 and Ferry with 317. Mike LaRocco, who finished sixth overall at Washougal, is fourth with 307.

In the 125cc class, SplitFire/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki’s Mike Brown scored the win after topping both motos, as well as the last four. With the win, Brown moves into the series points lead, because former leader Travis Pastrana had another crashed-filled day. After falling and injuring his shoulder in practice, Pastrana crashed again on the first lap of the first moto, but came back to finish eighth. In the second moto, he wasn’t so lucky. Pastrana was running up front when he slid out and cross-rutted on a downhill section of the track. It was a hard fall that left the Suzuki rider shaken and with a bent motorcycle. Pastrana was unable to finish the moto and is now third in points, 16 points behind Brown, and 11 points behind KTM Red Bull’s Grant Langston, who finished second at Washougal. Team Suzuki’s Rodrig Thain filled out the podium in third. Finishing fourth and fifth overall were Tallon Vohland and Larry Ward.
