Hacker Nails New Hampshire

| June 17, 2001
Mike Hacker of Carson, Virginia caught and passed early leader Terry Poovey of Euless, Texas on the fifth lap and led the rest of the 18 laps for the win in a crash-interrupted Formula USA/SFX National Dirt Track main event at the ninth annual Ben Campanale Laconia Half Mile held at the Rochester Fairgrounds in Rochester, New Hampshire, on June 15.This was the first time a National dirt track event was held in the state of New Hampshire.

At the restart, which was required after after John Thomas went down in turn four (Thomas was uninjured, but his bike was finished for the night), Hacker rebuilt his lead, but Bryan Smith of Flint, Michigan, put his youthful enthusiasm to work and passed Poovey going into turn one. Smith held on for second place. Poovey recovered from his slow restart and held on to third place.

Finishing behind the top three were Jennifer Snyder of Grand Saline, Texas, who came fourth after a long battle with fifth-place finisher, Steve Murray of Flint, Michigan.
