Portugese World Trials

| April 30, 2001

Defending World Champion Dougie Lampkin may be getting more competition so far this year, but he has still managed to maintain a perfect record through the first two rounds of the World Championship Trials Series, despite having his pre-season training limited due to foot-and-mouth disease in his home country of England. The Montesa rider topped both rounds this weekend at Pacos de Ferreira, Portugal, extending his lead in the points standings.

The other podium positions over the weekend were shared by Japanese Honda rider Takahisa Fujinami and Spanish Sherco pilot Marc Freixa; each took one runner-up finish and one third-place result.
