Lampkin Wins Day One

Dougie Lampkin and his Montesa-HRC Cota 315R won the opening day of the Sant Llorenç Trial in Spain, the first round of the World Trials Championship. The British rider dominated the event from start to finish, finishing with the best score in both of the two rounds on a selective and demanding course.

Spaniard David Cobos finished second, giving the Montesa-HRC team a one-two finish on the day. In the second round, José Manuel Alcaraz (Montesa-HRC Cota 315R) was unable to maintain the promising fourth position (being tied by points with the third classified) he held at the end of the previous round, as he had problems with the finger he injured last week. Alcaraz finished ninth, ahead of Takahisa Fujinami (Montesa-HRC RTL 250), with whom he tied by points and whom he beat through the highest number of zeros.

Amós Bilbao (Montesa-HRC Cota 315R), on the other hand, had to leave the event early after his bike fell into the water in the fourth zone.

“I carried off a good pre-season and I’m very confident,” Lampkin said in a team press release. “The course was difficult, but I felt very comfortable with the bike. Towards the end it started snowing and zones 13 and 14 were very slippery, but actually it didn’t give me any major problems.”
