In Seva, Spain, September 9, Team Spain took a popular home-country win at the Trials des Nations. Spain won handedly over the team from Japan, 44-65, while just three points back in third finished last year’s winning team from Great Britain.

The winning Spanish team was led by Montesa-mounted Marc Colomer who dropped just 12 points, but that still wasn’t good enough to top the best individual rider at the Trials des Nations Dougie Lampkin, also Montesa-mounted. Lampkin tallied a nine-point score.

The United States was not represented in the World Championship class but certainly was in the International Trophy division, which was won by the four-rider team from the U.S. Geoff Aaron (Montesa), Jess Kempkes (Gas Gas), Raymond Peters (Sherco) and Cory Pincock (Gas Gas) tallied a 26-point score, which was three points better than the next-best team from The Netherlands. Third place went to Australia, followed by Ireland, Norway and Andorra.

Aaron was also the top-finishing individual rider in the International Trophy class.

Spanish rider Laia Sanz (Gas Gas) won the Individual Ladies FIM Cup, while Debbie Evans-Leavitt (Gas Gas) was America’s top-placing Lady rider in 15th. Americans Kerrie Brokaw (Montesa), Pam deBruin (Montesa) and Laura Bussing (Gas Gas) finished 23rd through 25th, respectively.

Spain also won the FIM Ladies Cup team competition; Team USA (Evans-Leavitt and deBruin) finished eighth.
