Team Suzuki’s Travis Pastrana capped off the 2000 AMA/Chevy Trucks 125cc U.S. MX Championship Series with a pair of moto wins at Delmont, Pennsylvania’s Steel City Raceway, September 3, and with it captured the 125cc National Championship.

Yamaha of Troy’s Stephane Roncada, who went into the final race of the year with a six-point lead over Pastrana, finished third in the first moto and second in the second to finish second overall on the day, but it wasn’t enough to keep Pastrana from passing him in the series points race.

Third overall at Delmont went to Suzuki rider Branden Jesseman who rode to 2-3 moto finishes.

Pastrana finished out the series with 484 points to Roncada’s 482. Tallon Vohland ended up third in the series with 404 points.

In the 250cc class, where Ricky Carmichael had already wrapped up the 2000 250cc crown, put an exclamation point to his season with his ninth win of the year at Steel City. Carmichael, however, lost the first moto to Honda’s Sebastien Tortelli but came back to win the second moto and the overall. Mike LaRocco ended up second overall after going 3-2 on the day, while Tortelli ended up third overall after finishing sixth in the second moto.

The 250cc series ends with Carmichael way out in front with 535 points, followed by Tortelli with 453 points, Kevin Windham with 426 points, and David Vuillemin with 414 points.
