Lafferty Extends Points Lead

The way this year started off, you’d have thought there was no stopping the Yamaha thumper of former National Enduro Champion Randy Hawkins. The veteran won the first two rounds of the AMA/FMF National Enduro Series in convincing fashion (despite the fact that he was out of his element in the western terrain), and topped the prestigious Alligator Enduro at Daytona Bike Week to boot. But since then, another former champion – Team KTM’s Mike Lafferty – has gone on a rampage of his own, winning the next three National rounds and pulling ahead in the points standings.

Lafferty’s most recent win came yesterday at the Lubbock Trail Riders’ event in Kalgary, Texas, where Lafferty topped Hawkins to increase his points lead to 12, 136-124. Finishing third was Texas local Hayden Franklin, with Matt Stavish taking fourth and Mark Stevens completing the top five.

Hawkins will get another chance in one week, when the sixth round takes place in Ohio.
