Summers still bothered by sore knee

Still experiencing pain in his knee following his bad crash last season, former GNCC and Hare Scrambles Champion Scott Summers decided to get another doctor’s opinion about the injury and was told that the knee is still considerably damaged and might even require surgery or, at least, a lot of rest.

According to his spokesman, Fred Bramblett, the worst-case scenerio right now is that he might have to sit out the first three rounds of the GNCC Series and use those rounds as his “throw-away” rounds to give his knee more time to heal. Summers, however, will be seeking a third and possible fourth opinion on the matter.

Summers is scheduled to race the new water-cooled Honda XR650 in the upcoming GNCC Series, which gets underway at Okeechobee, on Florida, March 7.

According to Bramblett, testing is going well with the new bike, a bike, for all intents and purposes, that is completely different than what Summers has been racing for so many years.

“Normally we just put on a new set of tank decals and we’re ready,” Bramblett said. “But not this year [with a new bike]. We now have new things to learn, but they are going well.”
