Mickael Pichon made up major points on series leader Stefan Everts at the Grand Prix of Europe in Germany yesterday. The Frenchman rode his Honda to two wins, while Everts crashed in the opening moto and finished 11th place. In the second moto, Everts finished second but still lost valuable points to Pichon.

While Pichon, of the Martin Honda team, dominated with 1-1 results, second overall went to CAS Honda rider Josh Coppins, who finished with consistent 4-4 results. Third was Joel Smets with 2-8 results.

In the MX2 class, it was Australian Andrew McFarlane who took the victory, finishing with 1-3 results. He finished ahead of teammates Alessio Chiodi and Davide Guarneri.

Understandably, Pichon was happy with his win.

"I crashed here last year," Pichon said. "I felt good today. We have done some work on the bike and to be honest, I have been waiting for this win all year. I want to win the championship and this is a good start to that. I nearly crashed in the opening lap of the second moto with Stefan [Everts], but once I got a lead I was feeling really confident." McFarlane, who equaled the record of fellow Australian Jeff Leisk with his third GP win, was excited about his success but was disappointed for not winning both motos.

"My speed is good, and I am now really riding well,” he said. “I am disappointed with not being able to win the second moto, but Alessio and I were really battling hard, and I made a mistake and had to finish in third place. I am looking forward to going to Japan now and moving closer to Cairoli at the front of the points."
