Dan Johnsen has been named the director of flat track for the AMA Grand National Championship, the former head of technical inspection for the road race series taking over from Mike Kidd with the former Grand National Champion moving to a marketing/sales role for both the dirt track and road race series

Johnsen is former AHRMA, CCS and WERA road racer and also worked as a crew member for the 4&6 Racing Safety First team in AMA Pro Road Racing. He joined AMA Pro as an official in 2008 and served in the technical department before being promoted to Chief Tech Inspector in 2009.

Johnsen also served in the U.S. Army as a Multiple Launch Rocket Systems Specialist from 1992 through 1994. He is originally from St. Charles, Illinois and is married and now lives in Ormond Beach, Florida.

"Dan has been an important part of our success in AMA Pro, and we feel very confident that he will bring his considerable skills to our important Flat Track activities," said David Atlas, COO and Managing Member of AMA Pro Racing, in a press release.

Johnsen commented on his new position, "I look forward to working in Flat Track with all its traditions and the great community of racers."

The AMA Pro Flat Track Grand National Championship season begins March 10-11, 2011 at Daytona International Speedway.
