Greg Hancock went into the Croatian Grand Prix with a knee ligament injury. He came out of it as the oldest World Champion in the sport's history, the 41-year-old Californian earning his second career World Championship with a fourth-place finish in Gorican last night.
Hancock's championship comes 14 years after his first world title in 1997 and he wrapped it up with one round remaining in the series.
Hancock's wrenched his knee on September 11 while riding for his club team in Gorzow, Poland and the Croatian Grand Prix was his first time riding since suffering the injury.
"The adrenaline pretty much took the pain away and I didn't think about the knee," Hancock said. "I'll pay for it later, but I'm over the moon with this."
